The challenge.

Pasqal is a French company at the forefront of quantum computing.

Founded in 2019, the company emerged from research led by physicist Alain Aspect—recipient of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics—and a team of scientists from the Institut d’Optique in Orsay. Today, Pasqal is dedicated to the development of quantum computers. As a European leader in this highly strategic sector, the company enjoys robust industrial collaborations, academic partnerships, and significant funding from both public and private investors.

Before our collaboration, their offices didn’t yet reflect the full scope of their ambitions. Teams were spread across several locations, limiting synergy. By bringing everyone together under one roof, with an integrated laboratory, Pasqal was able to foster internal cohesion and turn its headquarters into a true showcase for French deeptech excellence.

Why Factory?

This wasn’t just about designing new workspaces—it was about turning this move into a defining moment in the company’s story, laying the foundation for a shared culture. A crucial step for a company in constant pursuit of top-tier talent, as rare as they are in demand.

Pasqal chose Factory for our "The Future at Work" approach, particularly our ability to navigate complex and diverse user needs while designing agile, future-proof spaces.

Listening and programming.

To understand what employees truly needed, we began with an in-depth audit in collaboration with La Fabrique Spinoza.

Based on the insights gathered, we designed a program that spread functions across multiple levels, tailored to their specific workflows and technical requirements.

A human and technical challenge.

Pasqal operates in a highly demanding environment where access to equipment is strictly regulated and working with machines requires the utmost precision.

This project came with very specific constraints, requiring close listening, absolute discretion, and exceptional agility to meet the technical teams’ expectations. In some cases, the building itself had to be modified—including roofing equipment upgrades and adapting the electrical distribution system.

Working on a project as technically advanced as Pasqal gave our architects and engineers a rare opportunity to push the limits of their craft.

Warm, collaborative spaces.

Much of Pasqal’s value lies in its highly skilled teams and their capacity for collaborative innovation. To support this, we designed welcoming, modular environments with flexibility at their core: benches for brainstorming and informal conversations, writable walls, and meeting rooms equipped with integrated digital technology to streamline collaboration across teams and locations. We also introduced a number of staff services, including a dedicated “eat and work” area—especially valuable in the relatively secluded area of Palaiseau. The coworking space and business center were designed to accommodate visiting staff and partners.

Ergonomic premium furniture and acoustic solutions were carefully selected to enhance well-being. The goal? To strike the right balance between an industrial, tech-forward design—true to the nature of Pasqal’s work—and a workplace environment that promotes comfort and day-to-day satisfaction.

Connecting and structuring the space.

We drew inspiration from key elements of Pasqal’s identity to infuse coherence and rhythm throughout the space.

Les couleurs identitaires, dont le vert, ont été utilisées pour dynamiser les circulations et les flux et ont été enrichies de couleurs plus chaudes. Signature colors—especially green—were used to energize circulation paths and were complemented with warmer tones. Laboratories were positioned around a central core that houses the technical infrastructure required for the Quantum Processing Units (QPUs). To symbolize the power of quantum computing, we wrapped these labs in green Danpalon panels—repurposing this iconic, highly durable and recyclable exterior architectural material into an interior feature with totemic presence.

By clustering all the laboratories together, this “quantum core” became the vibrant heart of Pasqal. We also worked extensively with light to reflect the dynamic energy of this cutting-edge technology. The ultimate goal was to ensure that both the offices and labs embodied the company's identity—transforming the space into a powerful communication, recruitment, and engagement tool.

The takeaway?

We’re incredibly proud of this project, which demanded both advanced technical know-how and deep agility from our teams. Working hand in hand with Pasqal, we created a workspace that meets the company’s strategic needs and elevates the daily experience of its people. "It was a highly demanding brief, but also an exciting challenge: designing a space that wasn’t just a tool for work, production, and innovation—but a living environment, a place people enjoy coming to, and one they can be proud of." concludes Jules Dubois, Co-founder of Factory.

A tailor-made partnership.

We found in Factory a valuable partner—deeply attentive to our technical requirements, able to co-design solutions with us, tackle every challenge along the way, and ultimately help us create a headquarters that fits our needs today and can grow with us tomorrow.
